The European Political Community Summit will take place in Bulboaca. Maia Sandu: "Moldova will become the centre of Europe on 1 June"
The European Political Community Summit will take place on June 1 in Bulboaca in the Castel Mimi wine complex, President Maia Sandu told a press conference today. The 50 heads of state and government attending the event will debate issues related to war and peace, the future of Europe - the future of the 750 million people working on the European continent. The future of the Republic of Moldova as a European state will also be discussed.
"We want to be an integral part of the European market, to sell more and more Moldovan products in EU countries, to connect into the European transport network, so that Moldovans can travel easier, cheaper and faster. We want to contribute to a better connected and more stable Europe. We want to show that we are a reliable partner, ready to actively contribute to strengthening unity and security on the European continent," said the head of state.
The presence of European leaders in Bulboaca demonstrates that the Republic of Moldova has many strong friends "who support us in our desire to maintain peace and stability in the region and throughout the European continent".
"It is an international recognition, and an opportunity to strengthen our ties with European countries - with the free world. It is also a very clear message that Moldova is not alone. In these difficult times, when Russia continues to wage an inhumane war against Ukraine, the diplomatic support this event offers is invaluable. European countries will not abandon Moldova under any circumstances. Peace and democracy in our country will be protected", continued the Head of State.
This event is also important for Moldova's European course and the leaders of the Member States "will get to know us better".
"For us it is an opportunity to show that we are a peaceful, hard-working and dignified people, in line with European values", she said.
The costs of organising the event will be covered by the government of the country and part of the expenses will be covered by the Council of the European Union.
"The costs of isolating our country would be thousands of times higher than the costs we are now incurring at the event (...). Bulboaca will become the Moldovan locality that has hosted 50 European presidents and prime ministers. From a grey area unknown to many, Moldova will become the centre of Europe on 1 June. Let's all get involved to show that the Republic of Moldova is a democratic, solid, responsible state dedicated to European integration. That Moldova is a beautiful country. And that the European Union will be richer with Moldova as part of it", the President added.
Referring to the security measures to be taken, Maia Sandu said that they will be ensured at the highest level, and the state authorities are also working with the relevant institutions of other states.
"We are committed to ensuring security standards at the highest level. We are working with the security institutions of other states. Security measures will be adopted gradually. We are trying to do everything we can to minimise certain effects on citizens as a result of these measures. The security issue is one of the most important. We are learning from other countries how to organise such events," the President said.
On 1 June, our country will host the European Political Community Summit, a forum set up last year where European leaders discuss solutions to Europe's most pressing problems, such as security, stability and energy resilience.
