Parliament voted several amendments to the Law on the Supreme Court of Justice

The Supreme Court of Justice will function in its current composition and will judge cases under its jurisdiction until the date when the President of the Republic of Moldova, on the proposal of the Superior Council of the Magistracy, appoints at least 9 judges evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the external evaluation of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice. Amendments to this effect were voted on Thursday by 57 deputies.

The legislative amendments have an effect both on the constitution of court panels and on the change of their members until the Supreme Court of Justice starts its work in its new composition. The document also provides for the adjustment of the deadlines for approving the nominal composition of the evaluation commission for judges of the SCJ and candidates for this position.

Parliament recently adopted two laws aimed at reforming the Supreme Court of Justice and the external evaluation of SCJ judges and candidates.
