Dorin Recean: Moldova will increase the spectrum of cooperation with NATO

The Republic of Moldova will increase the spectrum of cooperation with NATO, Prime Minister Dorin Recean told a TV8 broadcast. The prime minister stressed that an information campaign is needed to explain to citizens the importance of cooperation with the military bloc and its benefits for our country.

"The first thing we need to understand is that NATO, at least a good part of our society, but also of other societies was associated since the Cold War with something confrontational, which is not true. Certainly NATO is about democratic development, resilient institutions, building institutional defence capabilities. Once we have this growing agenda of working with NATO it is obvious that we also have to explain to the ordinary citizen why we are doing so. No NATO country today feels unprotected," said Dorin Recean.

The latest poll conducted by WatchDog Community and presented on 19 April shows that the number of citizens supporting Moldova's accession to NATO is 34.6 percent, up five percent from the previous month.
