The IT sector is becoming increasingly profitable in Moldova
This year, the total volume of IT and business services exports could grow to $825 million. Of these, $620 million would go to the IT sector and over $200 million to the business sector. The forecast was made by economic policy expert Veaceaslav Ionita.
The economic expert argues that services are the economy of the 21st century, and the fastest growth is in IT and business-related sectors such as design, architecture, research, accounting, customer relations and surveys.
In 2022, for the first time the gross salary in IT exceeded two thousand dollars, and in the business services sector it reached $670, said economic policy expert Veaceaslav Ionitsa. At the same time, the economist said that more than 35 thousand people work in these spheres.
"IT specialists can very easily go abroad, and this has led to the fact that the salary here has increased faster. If in 2013 the pay gap between the IT sector and the national average was 2.1 times, in 2022 it will be 3.6 times. Pay in the BSS sector is higher than the national average, but lower than in the IT sector. Unlike the BSS sector, the authorities have paid more attention to the IT sector. They have provided tax breaks, created IT parks, which has allowed the sector to grow rapidly, including wage growth. The BSS sector has not received attention from the authorities, even though it is similar to the IT sector," said the expert.
The economist also pointed out that IT services have also ensured wage growth in Moldova. In 2022, the salary in the IT sector reached more than 37 thousand lei, registering an increase of more than 20 percent, while in other areas it was increased by up to 15 percent.
