The Fuego volcano in Guatemala enters a new phase of eruption
The Fuego volcano in Guatemala, located only 35 kilometres from the capital, entered a new phase of eruption on Saturday, accompanied by explosions, lava flows and ash emissions, reports AFP.

The eruption of the volcano - located at a height of 3,763 metres and located only 35 kilometres southwest of the capital Guatemala City - generates "constant weak, moderate and strong explosions", the National Institute of Volcanology (Insivumeh) said in a statement. It also causes an "incandescent fountain" of lava that rises more than 500 metres above the crater and a plume of ash projected more than a kilometre from the volcano's summit, Insivumeh said.
The authorities have not yet ordered the evacuation of the population.
In 2018, its eruption caused the death of 215 people and the disappearance of a similar number of people living in rural communities near the crater.
