Marina Tauber's lawyer claims that her detention is an abuse of power. PAS reaction
The lawyer of the political party SOR, Aureliu Colenco, told the press in front of the NAC headquarters that the detention of Marina Tauber is illegal.
"She informed the prosecutor's office as well as the court. So far, neither the lawyers nor Marine Tauber have been summoned to court. We believe that there is a power grab against Marina Tauber in connection with the election in Gagauzia," Colenco said.
Reacting to Marina Tauber's accusations that the government is resorting to illegalities because it is afraid of the political influence of the ȘOR party, PAS MP Oazu Nantoi told Radio Moldova that Marina Tauber should worry about her own and her party leader's problems, and the fact that she has been detained is a good sign that things in the judiciary are changing.
"There are some positive signs in the self-development of the judicial branch, Ms Tauber has to deal with 3,000 coffins and the fact that the party leader is convicted. If Mrs Tauber's opinion matters in Moldova, then woe to our society and civic dignity," said the MP.
Marina Tauber was detained this morning at Chisinau International Airport as she was planning to fly to Tel Aviv via Istanbul. She was detained by NAC prosecutors and escorted to its headquarters.
On 5 January 2023, the Chisinau Court of Appeal maintained the preventive measure - provisional release under judicial control - and decided that Marina Tauber must not leave her place of residence, must not communicate with persons connected with the criminal proceedings and must surrender her passport to the judge appointed as investigating judge.
Marina Tauber is charged on two counts - knowingly accepting party funding from an organised criminal group and falsifying the report on the financial management of the Sor Party.
