Flashmob in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation: "United for press freedom." The truth cannot be suppressed!"
The Center for Independent Journalism and other media organizations held a flashmob in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau titled "United for press freedom. The truth cannot be suppressed!", organized on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
"Several journalists, civic activists and representatives of civil society organizations gathered to participate in a flashmob "United for press freedom. The truth cannot be suppressed!” which is organized by the Center for Independent Journalism. The purpose of the event is to highlight the consequences of the war on the free and independent media, stressing how important it is for journalists to carry out their work in a safe environment, without being persecuted. By participating, those present at the event express solidarity with the journalists who reflect the war and who do their job honestly regardless of the circumstances", said the reporter of Radio Moldova from the scene.
We recall that the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization declared May 3 the International Day of Press Freedom, to raise awareness of the importance of press freedom and to remind governments that they have the obligation to respect and to support the right to freedom of expression enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, from 1948, and which marks the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a document containing the principles of a free press and which was drawn up by journalists from African newspapers in Windhoek in 1991.
