10 million euro additional grant for the expansion of the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Cahul

The municipality of Cahul will receive 10 million euros, additional non-reimbursable resources, for the implementation of the "Water supply and sewerage in Cahul district" project. In this regard, the Ministry of Finance (representing the Republic of Moldova), the municipality of Cahul and the German Development Bank (KfW) signed the Additional Financing and Project Agreement.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the agreement in question is intended to co-finance the "Water supply and sewerage in Cahul district" project financed on the basis of the Financing and Project Agreement, concluded on August 1, 2018, between KfW, the Republic of Moldova and the municipality of Cahul, according to which KfW awarded the Republic of Moldova a grant worth 23.5 million euros.

The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate and expand the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in the Cahul district. This activity will bring direct results to the population of Cahul district, by minimizing health risks, targeting the local public administration authorities (Cahul municipality, Cahul district, Cotihana and Crihana Veche), S.A. Water Canal Cahul, the Southern Regional Development Agency and civil society, as well as improving environmental protection and smarter use of natural resources.

Through this additional funding, the total budget of the project will amount to 47.4 million euros in non-reimbursable assistance, including 13.9 million euros of the European Union's contribution.

The deadline for the implementation of grant resources is December 30, 2026.
