The airspace of the Republic of Moldova will be closed to civil aircraft in the context of the CPE Summit: What other security measures will be taken
The airspace of the Republic of Moldova will be closed for civil aircraft from June 1, 00:00, until June 2, 07:00. This is one of the measures that will be taken in the context of the European Political Community (EPC) Summit, which will be implemented gradually and will have a high level of flexibility to cause as little inconvenience to citizens as possible.
Exceptions to this measure are official aircraft. At the same time, according to a press release of the Media Group for Security News (GMSS-CPE), civil unmanned aircraft (drones) are prohibited from flying between May 31, 00:00, until June 2, 07:00: 00. Also, starting from May 15, the car park near the Chisinau International Airport will operate in a special regime until May 25. This means that car parking on the lower floors will be prohibited, while the upper floor will be available for parking. However, between May 25 and June 2 (07:00) access to the Airport parking lot will be prohibited.
"On the police line, IGP measures will be applied gradually, depending on the operational situation for both road traffic and pedestrians. Daily life will be limited only for short periods. Also, parking will not be allowed for a certain period of time, in the maximum security perimeters. Citizens will be informed in the coming period about alternative travel routes and the possibilities of parking cars in the security space intended for the CPE Summit", reads the press release.
The police urge citizens to plan their travel route in advance on May 31, June 1 and 2, opting for the roads adjacent to the Chisinau International Airport and avoiding the capital's main arteries, as well as traveling at certain intervals on the Chisinau - Bulboaca route and vice versa. In this context, in order to streamline road traffic, the Police will supplement the number of employees, including for patrols in public spaces and in nearby towns where many visitors are expected. Citizens are also urged to have their identity documents with them.
Also in the context of the preparation for the Summit, the Border Police will increase control and surveillance in all areas of competence. Thus, the number of front-line border police and special travel document control devices will be supplemented. The quoted source mentions that the protection of top officials will be ensured by the State Guard and Protection Service (SPPS), which involves an increased apparatus of security forces.
The GMSS also informs that several simulations and tactical training will be organized throughout May.
