LIVE // Press conference held by Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topala

Press conference held by the Minister of Education and Research, Anatolie Topală, on the launch of the National Programme on Romanian language learning by national minorities, including the adult population, for the years 2023-2025.

On 7 March this year, the Government approved the national programme for the learning of the Romanian language by national minorities, including the adult population, for the years 2023-2025.

The current programme, unlike the previous one, also provides for the training of the adult population, not only pre-schoolers, pupils and students. At the same time, the programme includes other new elements, such as the implementation of multilingual education, which involves teaching non-linguistic subjects in Romanian and in the mother tongue, as well as the certification of the level of linguistic competence in Romanian for the adult population, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Through the approved Programme, around 6 thousand teachers and managers will be trained in Romanian language skills. A further 13 thousand adults from various professional categories (justice, medicine, economy, arts, central and local public administration), including adult refugees from Ukraine, will learn Romanian in courses. In addition, about 4,000 foreign-language pupils, including refugee children from Ukraine, enrolled in educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova, will participate in various educational programmes in Romanian.
