Yevgeny Prigozhin announced the withdrawal of the Wagner group from Bahmut in case it faces a shortage of ammunition

The founder of the private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has announced that the Wagner group will withdraw from the city of Bahmut on 10 May due to a shortage of arms and ammunition, Rador reports.

"On 10 May 2023 we are forced to transfer our positions to Russian Defence Ministry subunits," the Wagner founder said in a video distributed online.

Prigozhin's press service published a video, showing the bodies of Wagner fighters who died in the area of the Russian special operation and asking the Russian Defence Ministry to provide more weapons.

Yevgeny Prigozhin is in open conflict with the Russian military hierarchy, which he accuses of not delivering enough ammunition to his men, and has publicly criticised Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shigu on several occasions.

Russian and Ukrainian troops have been fighting for control of Bahmut since last summer. Losses in manpower and equipment are heavy on both sides, and the Ukrainian army currently controls only a small sector of the western part of the city. However, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski refuses to give the order to withdraw.
