On May 9, Ukraine will celebrate Europe Day

On May 9, Ukraine will celebrate Europe Day and not Victory Day as it was celebrated until now. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy proposes that Victory Day over Nazism in World War II be marked on May 8, not May 9, RBC News Agency reports.

The leader from Kyiv registered a draft law in this regard in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Polls in 2023 show that Ukrainians have radically changed their attitude towards May 9.

Only 22 percent say May 9 should be marked as Victory over Nazism Day, while 62 percent of respondents believe the country should mark May 8 as Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation.
