Republic of Moldova to receive €5.6 million grant for waste processing
Three districts in the Republic of Moldova will receive a €5.6 million grant for waste management. The money is being provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). A draft law to this effect was approved by the government on Wednesday.
According to Grigore Stratulat, state secretary of the environment ministry, some 185,000 people in Nisporeni, Ungheni and Calarasi will benefit from a modern system of sustainable waste management.
According to the Ministry of Finance, this funding complements a €25 million loan from the EBRD to the Moldovan government, part of a wider financing package, with an additional loan from the European Investment Bank and investment grants from other bilateral donors.
To date, the Bank has invested over €2 billion in the Republic of Moldova through 160 projects, with 52% of its portfolio in sustainable infrastructure.
