EU provides 400,000 euros for the development of four clusters in Cahul and Ungheni regions

Four clusters in the Cahul and Ungheni regions have received grants worth €100,000 each, assistance provided by the European Union through the "EU4Moldova: Key Regions", implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

Thus, in Cahul, the "Bacii Sudului" livestock cluster will develop and strengthen technologies and increase the quality of sheep products, the wine cluster will set up an Oenological Centre, and the beekeeping cluster will strengthen the sector by equipping it with specialised packaging equipment. At the same time, in Ungheni, the "Hills of the Mughal Mountains" tourism cluster will develop its services and increase the competitiveness of the region's tourism offer.

Financial support for clusters is directed towards the purchase of equipment, goods, works and services, all of which contribute to the creation of new jobs and to making the regions more attractive for new investments.

"Financial and technical support to clusters will help their members - private companies, local public authorities and research institutions - to develop further. As a result, the urban and rural areas of Cahul and Ungheni will become more attractive for locals, tourists and investors, positioning them closer to EU standards. EU support helps both regions to improve their standard of living and strengthen the economic and social cohesion of the Republic of Moldova", noted Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova during the grant certificate award ceremony on 13 May 2023.

"Today's event is about celebrating the local business community in Ungheni and Cahul for their partnership, resilience and dedication to continue investing in the economic development of the two regions. UNDP Moldova will continue to advance approaches that catalyse investment and economic growth, as well as the cooperation of economic actors within clusters," said Andrea Cuzyova, UNDP Moldova's Acting Resident Representative.

"I thank development partners for their support and contribution to the modernisation of Moldova. At the same time, I appreciate the courage and perseverance that some entrepreneurs show in innovating the way they do business. The cluster is a business model that could be replicated in other regions of the country, which as a result would bring prosperity to the Republic of Moldova," said Viorel Garaz, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitisation.

According to UNDP Moldova, the aim of the grant assistance for the four clusters in Cahul and Ungheni is to promote and support the spirit of cooperation between companies in urban and rural areas.
