The Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau will present a report next year on the progress of the Republic of Moldova in order to initiate accession negotiations
The Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova will present in October of next year a report on the progress made by our country in order to join the EU, said in the show "La 360 de grade", the head of the Delegation of the EU in the Republic of Moldova Janis Mazeiks. According to the diplomat, the Moldovan authorities take into account the recommendations made by the European Commission and are moving forward in this regard.
Moreover, Janis Mazeiks denied the fact that our country would have obtained the status of a candidate country for the EU because of the geopolitical context. "I don't agree that it was a geopolitical situation. It was a very firm commitment from the country, the leadership, but also the people. We saw that commitment of civil servants and politicians in the way they dealt with these subjects. When the EU asked hundreds of questions about the level of preparation of the Republic of Moldova to become a member of the EU, we received these detailed answers in just two months", said the diplomat. Also, the diplomat mentioned that currently, EU support for the Republic of Moldova is very high. "The European Parliament was the first institution that expressed its support for the Republic of Moldova to obtain this status as a candidate state, and of course we also have the political dynamics that the country is showing, because the EU's support for the Republic of Moldova at the moment is very high .Moreover, when we look at the process there are several elements that are yet to take place. We are primarily talking about the thing that will happen soon. The European Commission will analyze how close or how far the Republic of Moldova is from the implementation of the community IQ, and this evaluation is to be done by the end of the year", said Janis Mazeiks. This would be the first point of reference, but it is not necessarily related to the initiation of negotiations, the ambassador continued. He noted that the EU Delegation from Chisinau, as well as the Government of the Republic of Moldova, will each prepare a report on the progress made by our country. Afterwards, the EU will formulate its own conclusions. "This will be the first indicator regarding how, according to the opinion of the European Union, the Republic of Moldova has been able to advance since it received this candidate state status. We have seen a great commitment, a lot of changes to the legislation and other activities from the Government and the Parliament, but the evaluation from our side will follow in the fall of 2023", said the official. Janis Mazeiks also referred to the Transnistrian conflict, noting that the EU engaged in discussions with the Republic of Moldova as a single state, and the EU supports the resolution of the Transnistrian dispute based on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and within the limits of internationally recognized borders with a status especially for the left bank. We remind you that the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union on June 23. In order to start the actual negotiations with a view to joining the EU, the Republic of Moldova must fulfill the 9 recommendations issued by the European Commission in June.
