Janis Mazeiks: Moldovan society is getting closer to European values
Moldovan society is getting closer to European values - said the ambassador of the European Union in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks, during the launch event of the "Civil Society for European Integration" project. For his part, Prime Minister Dorin Recean referred to the need to strengthen the partnership between the authorities and civil society.
The aim of the project is to improve capacities, to ensure resilience and to increase the participation of civil society organizations in the process of monitoring budgets at the central and local level. An important objective is to increase the involvement of civil society members in supporting the Europeanization agenda of the Republic of Moldova.
According to Ambassador Janis Mazeiks, the European Union supports civil society organizations, because they have a considerable role in the development of the country.
"We greatly appreciate the action plan that was adopted last year, which also commits to implementing a stronger concept with reference to civil society and underlines the strong collaboration we have had so far. For the first time, the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova offers direct support to the secretariat in this field, in terms of integration into the European Union, it si both about external and internal support", said the EU ambassador.
The Secretary of State from the Ministry of Finance, Ion Gumene, stated that the authorities encourage civil society to get more actively involved in the process of monitoring public money expenditures.
"We are strengthening the capacities of civil society to be able to demand from the public authorities, either central or local, more explanations, information on how the money was budgeted, how public procurement was done and many other things that are a priority on the agenda of the Ministry of Finance and together we hope to speed up progress on this dimension a bit. It is an absolute priority in the European integration process, and I am sure that not only for public finances, but for every sector or field", said Ion Gumene.
The "Civil Society for European Integration" project aims to support 15 non-governmental organizations in the activity of monitoring the implementation of reforms in various fields.
