Dorin Recean comments on the situation in Comrat: "The Bashkan of the Gagauz autonomy must be elected according to legislation"
Nobody will elect the Bashkan of Gagauzia instead of the citizens of Gagauzia, and the problems identified in the electoral process will be assessed by the court. This is the statement of Prime Minister Dorin Recean on the situation in Comrat. In this context, the Chief Executive called on everyone to calm down and assured citizens that the Executive will work with them and with the mayors of the region.
"I want to mention that no one in their place will choose the Bashkan, neither Chisinau, nor Moscow, nor those who are not here to serve their sentence. The Bashkan of the Gagauz autonomy must be elected according to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and according to the specific legislation of the Gagauz autonomy and this will happen. I call on everyone to be calm, for the institutions to function at all levels because the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova guarantees everyone the right to a fair trial. And respectively, the problems that have been identified, have been documented, have been presented to the court, and the court will give an assessment. The government will work to ensure public services to the citizens of the autonomy (...) What we will not do is to work with people who represent interests other than the interests of the citizens of the autonomy and whenever we identify someone trying to have an agenda other than the agenda of the citizens, the law enforcement system will intervene accordingly," Dorin Recean stressed.
Last night, in Comrat, CNA security guards raided the offices of the Comrat Electoral Council. According to the NAC, during the investigation measures, it was suspected that the electoral lists for the elections in Gagauzia included people who were outside the country at the time of the elections, as well as dead people. Therefore, the ballot boxes are to be unsealed for verification.
