The problem of Ukrainian grains // Maia Sandu: The Republic of Moldova must help Ukraine
The subject of grains is a complicated one and there are no simple solutions, said President Maia Sandu on the public television. The head of state stated that our country must help Ukraine, because it needs solidarity ways to export its products.
In this context, Maia Sandu also stated that the grain problem arose with the occupation of Ukrainian ports by the Russians.
"There are also some real problems of farmers in the Republic of Moldova, because this is how the market situation was created and we are trying to find a solution. Yes, they could have communicated better and certain issues should have been discussed bilaterally more, before they went out into the public space. But the public pressure on the government from these farmers is also clear. So it's not a simple issue, and we've also seen this in Ukraine's dialogue with other states in the region. Now we are discussing the issue with Ukraine and the European Union, and I hope we can find a solution that is acceptable to both sides," said the head of state.
We remind you that, recently, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, announced the intention of the Republic of Moldova to temporarily introduce a ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower originating from Ukraine. In response, the Kiev authorities declared that they could ban imports from the Republic of Moldova.
Later, Chisinau announced that it was abandoning the imposition of bans, and at the same time it was preparing measures to support farmers affected by the high prices of diesel and fertilizers.
