The EU offered 23 million euros, grants for the development of Ungheni and Cahul districts
The European Union offered almost 23 million euros in grants to the Republic of Moldova through the "EU4Moldova: Key Regions" program. Thus, financial resources are used to support economic, territorial and social cohesion in Ungheni and Cahul districts.
The "EU4Moldova: Key Regions" program aims to improve the living standards of citizens in the Cahul and Ungheni regions, said the ambassador of the European Union in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks. "The aim of the project is to demonstrate regional and local development that can become sustainable. So it helps to create the necessary conditions for investment to improve local services and utilities. And in this context, I would like to give an example of EU support for the regions of Cahul and Ungheni, which amounts to almost 23 million euros, in the form of grants", said the EU ambassador, Janis Mazeisk.
Thanks to the EU4Moldova program, the residents of Ungheni were able to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and the large number of refugees from Ukraine, said the mayor of Ungheni, Alexandru Ambros. "When the situation was such that we needed support to deal with the pandemic, the EU4Moldova program stood by us, very quickly changed its budget, even if it did not foresee certain resources from the beginning. We had the problem with the refugees from Ukraine, and the program was there too", explained Alexandru Ambros.
Radio Moldova recalls that the "EU4Moldova: Key Regions" Program has been implemented since 2019 and aims to make governance more efficient by improving the quality of services and infrastructure, stimulating the private sector and encouraging participatory democracy.
