In Germany, local gas and electricity suppliers reduce their tariffs
Local gas and electricity suppliers in Germany are leaving behind the record prices of recent months, adjusting their tariffs to falling prices on energy exchanges. However, electricity and gas are still significantly more expensive than before the energy crisis, reports Radio Romania Actualități.
Electricity is now, on average, about 14% cheaper and gas 23% cheaper. This is the conclusion of a study carried out by the Verivox platform in Germany. According to the analysis, 91 electricity companies and 80 gas companies in the Federal Republic cut their prices in May, June and July.
On the other hand, almost 80% of all electricity tariffs and almost 90% of all gas tariffs continue to remain above the price brakes introduced by the government in response to the huge energy price hike.
It should be recalled that the price cap for electricity is €0.40 per kilowatt-hour and for gas €0.12 per kilowatt-hour. Lower tariffs are generally practised by supra-regional suppliers, says the Verivox study, quoted by Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Switching energy suppliers can therefore save customers more than €500 a year on electricity and €600 on gas, the study says. However, consumer protection warns that cheaper suppliers may introduce some problematic clauses into contracts.
