A new border crossing point with Romania will be opened in Leova
The Leova-Bumbăta State Border Crossing Point will be inaugurated today, at 2:00 p.m., informs a press release from the Government. The event will be attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ana Revenco, and her Romanian counterpart, Lucian Bode, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Lidia Dabija, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin Grindeanu, as well as the heads of border institutions and of the customs from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
The state border crossing point Leova - Bumbăta is open to international road traffic on the Moldovan-Romanian segment, the press release states. Through its establishment, the crossing of the border by people and means of transport will be facilitated. It will also streamline cross-border traffic and will reduce waiting time at the other state border crossing points. The work schedule will be daytime, between 08:00 and 20:00. At the first stage, transport units with a total mass of 3.5 tons will be allowed to cross the border.
Thus, at the end of last week, the people in charge of the crossing point informed that on the territory of our country the access to the pontoon bridge and the temporary arrangement of the crossing point are completed. In this sense, the border police made a presentation from above, and the procedure of control and surveillance of the border with the help of the drone was also demonstrated.
Previously, the media wrote that this project is financed from the state budget of the Republic of Moldova with over 250 million lei.
The construction has a length of 60 meters, a width of 14 meters and a capacity of 40 tons.
The Leova-Bumbăta bridge was built after the Russo-Turkish war of 1768–1774 and was demolished by the Soviets in 1944.
