Romania intends to fully supply the Republic of Moldova with energy and natural gas
Electricity and natural gas continue to get cheaper on the stock market. Prices are even twice as low as a year ago, but the declines are not seen in the bills for the population either. During all this time, Romania aims to fully and completely supply the Republic of Moldova with energy and natural gas, says the Minister of Energy from Romania, Virgil Popescu. For this there are two options for financing, RepowerEU or the modernization fund, Virgil Popescu said at the Energy Forum.
Romania's relationship with the Republic of Moldova in the field of energy is a priority for our country, both from the point of view of the supply of natural gas and electricity, declared the Minister of Energy of Romania, Virgil Popescu, during the Energy Forum, organized by Financial Intelligence . He added that it is desired to fully supply the Republic of Moldova with electricity and natural gas from Romania:
"At the level of natural gas, we have the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline. Last week we approved a memorandum in the government regarding the strengthening of energy cooperation with the Republic of Moldova. We are studying the increase of interconnection capacity through this gas pipeline. We are at an advanced stage with the Suceava-Bălți project, a 400 kilovolt line, to directly connect the Republic of Moldova with Romania. We have two options for financing in Romania: RepowerEU or the modernization fund. The Moldovan colleagues already have the funding for the part on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. "Nuclearelectrica" with "Energocom" has already signed a DPA type contract for unit 3 and unit 4. Practically, we want to supply the Republic of Moldova with energy and natural gas from Romania", said Virgil Popescu.
The projects to create new electricity production capacities in Romania are numerous and include both investments in renewables, nuclear and natural gas, but they also depend on strengthening the transport system and balancing the national energy system, stated Minister Virgil Popescu. According to him, the number one priority of Romania's energy transport system must be the direct power cable, which will cross Romania from east to west, part of a project that will connect Azerbaijan to Europe.
