Mircea Geoană: NATO is boosting its support for partners in danger due to Russian aggression
The North Atlantic Alliance is boosting its support for partners in danger due to Russian aggression, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said on Monday, in a speech delivered at the opening of the work of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which is being held in Luxembourg, Agerpres reports .
"We support Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina in areas such as cyber, crisis management and secure communications. Our partners in the South face complex and broader challenges, including the deteriorating security situation, the presence of terrorist groups, irregular migration and malign influence. Strengthening defense capabilities contributes to strengthening the resilience of our partners and therefore also strengthens the security of the Alliance", said Mircea Geoană, quoted in a press release issued by his office.
According to him, the allies need to step up funding in this area to carry out the projects requested by NATO partners, as there are still important funding gaps, and the ambition should be to close them by the NATO summit on July 11-12 from Vilnius.
"One of the lessons learned from Ukraine is the importance of supporting partners sooner rather than later," says NATO's Deputy Secretary General.
