BBC experience, a benchmark for the modernization of "Teleradio-Moldova". Vlad Țurcanu: The support we will receive will capacitate change

The Moldovan Public Broadcaster “Teleradio Moldova” is pleased to announce the project's official launch, "Supporting Teleradio-Moldova's Transformation”. The initiative has been made possible through funding provided by the UK Government, in collaboration with BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity, reads a press release of the Public Broadcaster “Teleradio Moldova” .

The "Supporting TRM’s Transformation" project aims to enhance the capabilities and modernization efforts of Teleradio Moldova, enabling it to effectively meet the evolving needs of its audience and deliver high-quality content in the digital era. The project will focus on various key areas, including content development, technical infrastructure, and organisational capacity building.

Steven Fisher, the British Ambassador to Moldova, emphasises the necessity to support the work of journalists in Moldova during these challenging times, declaring: „The UK Government is dedicated to supporting Moldova on its path toward becoming a stronger democracy. A proactive, free, and independent media landscape is an integral part of the British understanding of a mature democracy. This transformation entails strengthening TRM's capacity to produce informative, modern, and engaging news and current affairs programs, leveraging multimedia platforms to reach wider and more diverse audiences.”

Teleradio Moldova is honoured to collaborate with the UK Government and BBC Media Action in this transformative project. With the expertise and assistance to be provided, we are confident that Teleradio Moldova will emerge as a modern, inclusive, and audience-centric broadcaster, contributing to the development of a vibrant media landscape in Moldova.

Vlad Țurcanu, Director General, Moldovan Public Broadcaster expresses his gratitude for the support received, stating „With the support received, our organization will invest in training and professional development opportunities for our journalists. This will allow TRM journalists to acquire new skills, refine their critical spirit and adopt a stronger multimedia mindset. As a result, our team will be better equipped to produce high-quality content that resonates with a wide range of audiences.

With the support of BBC, TRM programming will be revitalized with fresh perspectives, innovative formats, and a deep commitment to inclusivity. The support we will receive will not only capacitate our journalists but will also capacitate change. ”

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, working in 23 countries around the world to support public interest media organisations such as TRM to produce trusted, impartial information and media content on multiple platforms so that audiences can be better informed, and take part in respectful discussion and public debate.

BBC Media Action, with its expertise, will deliver comprehensive mentorship and coaching. In this context, George Ferguson, Country Director Media Action Eastern Europe and Central Asia, mentions “BBC Media Action is delighted to be working in partnership with TRM on this project. Working in close collaboration with TRM colleagues, BBC Media Action will deliver a capacity-strengthening intervention which will improve the knowledge, skills and motivation of TRM managers, editors and content producers, supporting them to create informative, accessible and engaging news content and programmes so that they resonate with, and reach, more diverse audiences.”

Through the "Supporting Teleradio-Moldova's Transformation” project, TRM will undergo a comprehensive transformation that aligns with international broadcasting standards. This collaboration aims to enhance the quality, relevance, and diversity of programming offered by Teleradio Moldova while ensuring its sustainability in the long run.
