Prime Minister Dorin Recean in front of MPs. Requests extension of the state of emergency for another 60 days

Prime Minister Dorin Recean appeared before MPs today to call for an extension of the state of emergency for a further 60 days as the war in Ukraine, triggered by Russia, continues. At the same time, Dorin Recean announced that they will soon come up with an initiative that will create the instrument of emergency ordinance as in Romania.

"The Government will finalize in June an initiative to change the legislative framework in order to introduce the instrument of emergency ordinances into the legislative framework, following the Romanian model. On the one hand, this will allow the Government to intervene immediately when there is an emergency and, on the other hand, the emergency ordinance will substantially increase the effectiveness of parliamentary scrutiny of Government decisions. It will ensure that the Government can intervene immediately, promptly, and that parliamentary scrutiny of these decisions is much more effective", said Dorin Recean.

The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova was established on 24 February 2022 with the outbreak of war in Ukraine. It has subsequently been extended several times. Last time, the Moldovan Parliament declared a state of emergency throughout the country for a period of 60 days, starting on 5 April.
