The Gastrology and Hepatology Department of the Institute of Mother and Child is practically the only one in the Republic of Moldova that treats children with gastrointestinal pathologies and liver diseases, said the director of the medical institution, Sergiu Gladun.

He said that the renovation of this department was made possible thanks to a financial aid provided by the Ministry of Health, amounting to more than four million lei.

"This ward has 35 beds. Around two thousand patients with various gastrointestinal diseases are treated here every year. In 2022, the Ministry of Health offered us a subsidy for the renovation of this ward, around 4 million and 700 thousand lei, and with the help of this subsidy the Gastrology and Hepatology ward was renovated. The furniture was purchased with the help of sponsors", said Sergiu Gladun.

For her part, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco announced that other wards of this medical institution will be renovated and equipped with modern equipment. She said that MRI equipment for paediatrics will also be purchased.

"The capital repair of the famous ward for premature babies has been undertaken, we are equipping the Institute of Mother and Child with a lot of equipment, the procedure for the purchase of a number of MRIs for tertiary institutions has started, one of them will come here. So far the country has not had any MRI equipment for paediatrics and now we hope to install it by the end of the year", Ala Nimerenco concluded.
