President Klaus Iohannis and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski issued a joint statement on Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski issued a joint statement on Thursday on Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. According to the document, Romania will continue to promote the Alliance's political and practical support for Ukraine to ensure Ukraine's ability to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Ukraine will continue to deepen its interoperability with NATO and modernise its security and military forces, Agerpres reports.

"The President of Romania and the President of Ukraine welcome Ukraine's significant progress in advancing towards Euro-Atlantic integration; confirm their commitment to strengthen joint efforts to support Ukraine's integration into the Alliance and to implement NATO standards; express their readiness to hold bilateral consultations on international security guarantees for Ukraine ahead of Ukraine's accession to NATO membership under the Kiev Security Pact of 13 September 2022," reads the statement signed by the two heads of state.

According to the document, Romania will continue to promote the Alliance's political and practical support for Ukraine to ensure Ukraine's ability to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Ukraine will continue to deepen its interoperability with NATO and modernise its security and military forces.

"Ukraine highly appreciates the political and practical support offered by Romania and the Romanian people in these critical moments - (...) the reception of refugees, the transit of international assistance through the national territory, the facilitation of grain exports, support for Ukraine's national defence efforts and increased resilience, including the enhancement of defence capabilities; Ukraine welcomes Romania's proposed efforts and initiatives on post-conflict reconstruction," the joint statement said.

According to the source, Romania will support Ukraine for as long as necessary, will continue to provide multidimensional support to Ukraine and will continue to call for enhanced international support and assistance to Ukraine. Romania will support Ukraine in post-conflict reconstruction and recovery with a view to ensuring a stable, secure and resilient state.

The two heads of state also note, the joint statement says, that Romania supports Ukraine in obtaining NATO membership as soon as the conditions are met and continues to work together to support the stability and resilience of vulnerable states in the region affected by the Russian Federation's war of aggression, to ensure freedom and safety of navigation in the Black Sea in accordance with international norms and principles, and to achieve lasting security, stability, democracy and prosperity in the Black Sea region.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski are attending the second European Political Community (EPC) Summit in Moldova. Around 50 European presidents, prime ministers and senior officials are attending the summit, which is taking place at Mimi Castle in the village of Bulboaca, Anenii Noi district, about 35 kilometres from Chisinau.
