Nicu Popescu: The perspective of the Republic of Moldova has changed since obtaining the status of a candidate country for the EU
The perspective of the Republic of Moldova has changed since obtaining the status of a candidate country for the European Union (EU), and now we are a country that will join the European Union, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, in a talk show on Jurnal TV.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy mentioned that there was a lot of work for many years ahead, referring specifically to the nine recommendations of the European Commission.
"In the fall of next year, the European Commission will make a report evaluating the progress of the Republic of Moldova. This week when I was in Brussels, I met with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi. Our discussion told us that it was not excluded that after it would be shown that we have made enough progress on these nine recommendations of the European Commission to give another set of recommendations upon which we would begin negotiations. We have a lot of work to do, all our energy is channelled towards actions that bring the Republic of Moldova into the EU", said Nicu Popescu.
Nicu Popescu reiterated that half of the European Commission's recommendations relate to the field of justice, one recommendation regarding the fight against organised crime and another one refers to the adoption of a deoligarization law.
Radio Moldova recalls that the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union on June 23.
