Mircea Geoană: Informal NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Oslo important for the preparation of the Vilnius Summit
Yesterday's informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo provided an opportunity for important discussions in preparation for the Alliance's Vilnius Summit in July, said Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană.
"We need to find a consensus, hopefully in Vilnius, reconfirming our commitment to Ukraine becoming a member of the alliance in due course, but also focusing at the same time on political and practical support to help Ukraine defeat this war provoked by the Russian Federation. Another important discussion is supporting NATO's vulnerable partners. The third important topic is the very important Western Balkans. By having a NATO presence, by deterring both sides from escalation, let's make sure that we don't have a conflict in the East and a conflict in the West. Another important issue is the Vilnius decisions on defence spending", said Mircea Geoană.
Mircea Geoană added that another important issue discussed at the Informal Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Oslo was resilience in the face of cyber, hybrid and disinformation attacks.
