Klaus Iohannis: Solidarity and European unity are necessary for both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova
Solidarity and European unity are necessary for both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in the context of the regional situation. The statement belongs to the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, currently in Germany. The leader from Cotroceni evoked his country's support for the two states affected by Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, stressing the importance of strengthening the European Union's efforts to increase global security.
"This support must also be directed to the states indirectly affected by the war waged by Russia, whether they are in the immediate vicinity such as the Republic of Moldova, the country that received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees, or whether they are in other regions of the world and need that their problems of access to food and security do not escape the attention of global solidarity. After this absurd war is over, solidarity and understanding of the values that unite us in Europe will still be necessary for the complex process of reconstruction and restoration not only of Ukraine, but of the entire region", declared Klaus Iohannis.
At the same time, Klaus Iohannis said that Romania made considerable efforts to contribute to securing the borders of the European Union. The official from Bucharest hopes that his country will join the Schengen Area this year. We remind, Klaus Iohannis was awarded yesterday with the Civic German award, obtained from the Bad Harzburg Foundation, in recognition of democracy and civic commitment in Romania.
Today Klaus Iohannis will receive in Frankfurt, the Franz Werfel prize for human rights, conferred by the Center against expulsions.
