The agreement on the construction of the cross-border Bridge over the Nistru River is to be signed in the near future
The agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine regarding the construction of the cross-border Bridge over the Nistru River, between the towns of Cosăuți and Iampol, is to be signed in the near future. This was announced by the Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, who stated that she discussed it with the leader of Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky, during the Summit of the European Political Community.
We remind you that, in February last year, the Cabinet of Ministers from Chisinau approved the signing of the agreement, and the construction works were also started then. They were supposed to be finished within two years, but were stopped due to the war launched by Russia against Ukraine.
At the time, the authorities mentioned that the bridge would have a length of 641 meters, traffic and safety lanes, tracks for cyclists and pedestrian sidewalks. The Government of Ukraine will provide financing for the technical design and construction of the bridge as well as related infrastructure on its territory. The Government of the Republic of Moldova will be responsible for the road infrastructure on the territory of our state. According to the Chisinau Government, the expenses for the construction of the access road to the bridge on the territory of our country are estimated at 900 million lei.
We remind that, for the first time, this infrastructure project was discussed by presidents Maia Sandu and Volodymyr Zelensky in January 2021, when the head of state paid a visit to Kyiv.
