Janis Mazeiks: "The Republic of Moldova will not join the EU in 2024 or 2025, it is a long-term process"

The Republic of Moldova will join the EU neither in 2024 nor in 2025, this process is a long-lasting one and requires ambitious reforms, the European Union ambassador in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks, said on the radio show "360 degrees".

According to the official, the negotiation process will last during the next terms of office of the President of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament, which is why it is important to maintain the determination of the citizens to keep this goal.

"Everything is in the hands of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. It is clear that you will not join the EU in 2024 or 2025, this means that the negotiation process will continue during the next Parliament's term and after the next presidential elections, that is why I think it is very important that this determination of the voters of the Republic of Moldova is maintained in the coming years", said Janis Mazeiks.

On 17 March this year, President Maia Sandu told the Parliament that Moldova should be a member of the European Union by 2030. Now is our real chance to become a full member of the European family. We have the support of the EU states. Moldovans have chosen the European path, but how quickly we will get there depends on all of us, said Maia Sandu.
