Nine diplomats expelled from Russian Embassy in Helsinki
Finland will expel nine diplomats from the Russian embassy in Helsinki, accusing them of spying, the Finnish president's office announced Tuesday.
The decision was approved during a meeting in Helsinki between Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and the government's foreign and security policy committee.
"Finland will expel nine people working at the Russian embassy. Their actions are contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the president's office said in a statement, adding that it would inform the Russian ambassador of the expulsions.
Previously, Norway and Sweden have expelled Russian diplomats in recent months on suspicion that they are intelligence agents.
Moscow has denied that its diplomats engaged in improper activities, expelling Norwegian and Swedish diplomats instead.
