Brussels // Nicu Popescu discussed with European officials the ways to boost the process of accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU

The methods of boosting the process of accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU were discussed in Brussels during the visit by Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to Brussels. The Deputy Prime Minister had several meetings with European officials where he spoke about the fulfillment by the Chisinau authorities of the recommendations of the European Commission.

In Brussels, Nicu Popescu had meetings with the General Director of the General Directorate for Neighborhood and EU Enlargement Negotiations, Gert Jan Koopman, continuing the discussions initiated in Chisinau about the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in implementing the nine recommendations of the European Commission.

"In the discussions with the European officials, I am constantly aware that although there are still actions that need to be carried out, the Republic of Moldova has a high degree of progress in the implementation of all nine recommendations of the European Commission", Nicu Popescu wrote on his Telegram account. Nicu Popescu also had meetings with the Secretary General of the European Commission, Ilze Juhansone, the Secretary General of the EU Council, Thérèse Blanchet, as well as with the Chief of Staff of the President of the European Commission, Bjorn Seibert.

"I thanked the European officials for the assistance package announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her meeting with the President Maia Sandu. This package includes the gradual liberalization of roaming tariffs, support for strengthening the resilience of our country, including by launching the new European Union Partnership Mission in the presence of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell," Popescu added.

At the end of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova participated in a public event organized by the Center for European Policies where he spoke about the importance of boosting the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
