Nicu Popescu at the French National Assembly: I highlighted ways to speed up Moldova's accession to the EU
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, delivered a speech at the French National Assembly during a conference dedicated to Moldovan-French relations. Popescu outlined ways to speed up the process of Moldova's accession to the European Union and spoke about the measures taken by the Chisinau authorities to counter the threat of hybrid war. In the margins of the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu had several meetings with French officials.
Nicu Popescu delivered the speech alongside Laurence Boone, Minister of State for Europe; Jean-Louis Bourlanges, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Delphine Lingemann, Chair of the Moldovan-French Friendship Group, as well as a group of members of the National Assembly.
"We highlighted the importance and ways to speed up Moldova's accession to the European Union, as well as the progress made by our country in implementing the nine recommendations made by the European Commission. We also talked about the measures our country is taking to counter hybrid threats and disinformation.
We reiterate our appreciation for France's continued support for our country. In this context, I mentioned the support for the organisation of the European Political Community Summit on 1 June and support for the agreement on the reduction of roaming charges. I also stressed the importance of the Support Platform for Moldova, initiated by France, Romania and Germany. Thanks to it, our country managed to overcome the multiple crises generated by the unjust war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine", Nicu Popescu wrote on his Telegram account.
On the sidelines of the conference, Nicu Popescu met with the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, as well as a group of senators led by the Chairman of the European Affairs Committee, Jean-Francois Rapin.
Nicu Popescu welcomed the intensification of political dialogue at parliamentary level and expressed Moldova's interest in deepening trade relations.
The French senators, according to Popescu, appreciated the achievements of the Republic of Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union.
"This recognition of our efforts motivates us to continue our reforms and move forward on our European path," Popescu said.
Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu is concluding his visit to France, after which he will pay his first visit to Malta, where he will have meetings with the Minister of Foreign, European and Trade Affairs, Ian Borg, as well as several officials from the Maltese government and parliament.
