Ministry of the Interior received an assistance package of about one million dollars through the IOM
Teams of police, border guards and officers trained in migration management will become more effective thanks to a batch of assistance provided yesterday by the Governments of the US, Japan, the United Kingdom and the Council of Europe Development Bank, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) announced.
The assistance in the total amount of about 1 million dollars was offered through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in the framework of several projects aimed at strengthening the response of the Republic of Moldova to the crisis of refugees from Ukraine.
High-performance equipment will allow employees of MAI to better manage the borders, to offer quality services to citizens and refugees, the ministry states in a statement.
"The support generously provided by Japan and the UK will help the teams of MAI to be more mobile, more operative, more efficient, to develop our analytical component and the responsiveness of our police, border guards and colleagues in the field of migration," said the Minister of the Interior, Ana Revenco. Thanks to this partnership, the border management capacity in the Republic of Moldova has increased significantly this year, said the ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Edward Inglett.
“At the EPC Summit, the UK announced an additional £10.5 million in humanitarian funding to ensure refugees here can access basic services and protection and to strengthen the national social protection system to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people, refugees and Moldovans. We hope that this effective cooperation will continue in the coming year", said the ambassador.
