The number of people detained in the penitentiary system is constantly decreasing
The total number of people detained in the prison system is constantly decreasing. If in 2015, 8054 prisoners were registered in the country's penitentiaries, then at the beginning of this year the number reached 6 thousand people, the spokesman of the National Penitentiary Administration, Mihai Rotaru, told Radio Moldova.
According to him, the flow of prisoners in the penitentiary system began to decrease gradually starting from 2008, with the application of the amnesty law. Over the years, other laws have been passed that regulate the way of early parole.
"In 2019, the preventive and compensatory mechanism for detention in precarious conditions for minors and other categories of detainees became functional. There are three articles of the Criminal Code that regulate the way of conditional release before the term, where it is mandatory to complete an individual resocialization plan, positive behavior and employment in order to be able to benefit from this conditional release, and many of the prisoners rely specifically on this mechanism that the state offered and I am going to collaborate with the institution", declared Mihai Rotaru.
We remind that, according to the National Administration of Penitentiaries, last year about 3 thousand people arrived in the system of the penitentiary administration, and another 3 thousand served their sentence and were released.
