Minister of Justice invites the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Centre to cooperate

Misunderstandings between the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Centre could be caused by people in the entourage of Veronica Dragălin and Iulian Rusu, Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru told Radio Moldova's "360 degrees" programme. The minister also noted that last week she held a meeting in which she urged the heads of the two institutions, and not only, to collaborate on certain issues and to be vigilant about some moves within the institutions they lead.

"It is somehow natural that even at the level of the institutions there are more divergences because everybody has different views. There are some differences of views on competences, I mean on big corruption cases, on legislation, on how to work together on certain cases, but I think both the prosecution and the NAC want to work together effectively because society expects results. However, more vigilance is needed internally, because there are certain factors that probably want to destabilise this internal cooperation. I am confident that the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the NAC will find the best solutions, and the Ministry of Justice is always ready to contribute to resolving these situations", said Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.

Earlier this month, several pieces of information appeared in the press that Veronica Dragalin had summoned to a meeting with the prosecutors and prosecution officers of the NAC whom she had accused of corruption.

Veronica Dragalin later confirmed that there had been some misunderstandings, but nevertheless the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Centre are collaborating and have even moved forward on some high-profile cases. Recently, at a meeting in the plenary of the Parliament, the director of the NAC, Iulian Rusu, spoke about the disagreements between the General Prosecutor's Office, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the NAC. At the time, the two prosecutors' offices rejected the accusations in a joint press release, in which they accused the head of the NAC of "irresponsibility and manipulation". President Maia Sandu called on the heads of the NAC and the anti-corruption prosecutor's office not to compromise the fight against corruption.
