EU will invest 250 million euros to improve cross-border connections between the Republic of Moldova and neighboring countries

The European Union will invest 250 million euros to improve cross-border connections between the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and their EU neighbors - Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.

The money is part of a wider European Union programme, which includes 107 transport infrastructure projects to receive over €6 billion in EU grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU's tool for strategic investment in transport infrastructure. The announcement was made by the European Commission in a press release. The projects will facilitate the transport of goods between the EU and Ukraine, thus strengthening the "colors of solidarity".

"I am particularly pleased that the sum of €250 million will improve cross-border connections between Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and their EU neighbours, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. These projects will facilitate the transport of goods between the EU and Ukraine, thus strengthening the corridors of solidarity", said the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean.

EU funding will take the form of grants, which will be used to co-finance the total costs of the works.
