A law regarding the protection of pets to be established in Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, an information system could be created to identify and to record data on pets and their owners. A draft law in this sense was presented today by the deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party Lilian Carp and Iulia Dascălu.

According to MP Lilian Carp, this will help the authorities to know the exact number of animals that the owners have and at the same time to register even stray animals.

"With the approval of this draft law, the Criminal Code will also have to be amended. For those who will not comply with those provisions that are in the draft law, because any law works when there are also penalties for those who violate the legislation. The draft law addresses the behavior of the owners who are with the animals in the street", said Lilian Carp.

If approved, the draft law will enter into force 12 months after publication in the Official Gazette. The document was consulted and was supported by civil society, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment.
