Wagner mercenary revolt // Vladimir Putin introduces new penalties for violating martial law

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law today that provides for new penalties for violating martial law, which include up to 30 days in prison and fines, DPA and Agerpres report.

Officially, however, martial law has not yet been imposed in Russia. Instead, authorities in some regions have declared a state of anti-terrorist emergency amid the uprising of Wagner's mercenary army.

However, martial law is already in force in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, such as Kherson, Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporozhye.

The text of the new law does not list specific martial law violations, but it is supposed to apply to crimes that would not be punishable in peacetime, such as breaking curfews or refusing to work.

Under the new law, if the person is in a vehicle that violates martial law, it could be impounded.
