Elections in Greece for the new Parliament

Nine million voters are called to the polls again today to elect the new Parliament. Polls opened at this time and will close at 7:00 p.m. 44 political formations are included in the lists, and the favorite is the right-wing party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in front of the radical left led by Alexis Tsipras, informs Radio Romania News.

Also victorious in the elections five weeks ago, Mitsotakis called another election to obtain a parliamentary majority with the help of the bonuses granted by the new electoral system,

Mitsotakis's conservatives won last month's election by a 20 percent margin over the center-left Syriza party of Alexis Tsipras, another former prime minister.

The new electoral system, unlike the proportional one, with which the previous elections were held, offers a variable bonus to the first party. Thus, the winning party, which will get more than 25% of the votes, automatically receives a bonus of 20 seats in the Parliament and for every half percentage unit it receives a seat in the Parliament with a ceiling of 50 bonus seats.

There are unlikely to be any surprises in this round of voting, but former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has warned that if he does not get the majority he wants, there will be a third vote in August.
