A Russian mercenary, spotted at Chisinau International Airport among passengers, upon entering the country
A Russian citizen, who has connections with pro-Russian military troops, was identified among the passengers, who were to enter the country through the Chisinau International Airport.
According to the Border Police, based on information obtained from the Intelligence and Security Service and international partners, it was established that the person in question, a citizen of the Russian Federation, has connections with pro-Russian troops, which are carrying out military actions in Donbas against Ukraine.
Therefore, the man was not authorized to cross the state border, and after screening measures were in place he was returned by air to the state of origin.
The Border Police mentions that, in order to exclude security risks, in the context of the war started by Russia against Ukraine, security protocols are applied at all state border crossing points, which implies additional state border crossing control for travelers, especially for foreign citizens.
In the future, the Border Police in cooperation with the competent national authorities and international partners will take the necessary measures to not admit cases that threaten the safety and security of the state and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
