Magistrates extended the arrest warrant for Marina Tauber for another 20 days
Marina Tauber remains under house arrest for another 20 days. The decision was taken by the Buiucani court of Chisinau. Yesterday, the first preliminary hearing was held in the criminal case against Marina Tauber and the "Șor" political party on four charges of falsifying reports on the financing of the electoral campaign and the political party and accepting illegal financing from an organised criminal group.
Prosecutors found that Marina Tauber, who ran on behalf of the "Șor" Party for mayor of Bălți municipality in the election campaign of 21 November 2021, in prior agreement with the party treasurer, acting in coordination with the organized criminal group led by Ilan Șor, allegedly received from him money in the amount of over 9 million lei. Part of this money, namely about 740,400 lei lei, was declared as donations from 104 individuals, which is false.
Marina Tauber is also accused that, as vice-president of the "Șor" political party, in the interests of the political party, she knowingly accepted funding for the political party from the organised criminal group led by Ilan Șor, totalling 195,518 lei.
Members of the Moldovan Parliament approved the requests of the acting Prosecutor General to waive Marina Tauber's immunity on three counts, depriving her of parliamentary immunity. Earlier, in July 2022, MPs approved the lifting of immunity on the fourth count.
On 29 May 2023, the Chisinau Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Chisinau Ciocana Court, which extended the preventive measure of house arrest for 20 days. Marina Tauber pleads not guilty.
