The National Aviation Security Committee, meeting today in an extraordinary session, has decided to set up a working group at expert level in the field of security and public order, with the participation of all institutions with competence in the field of aviation security. The decision was taken in the context of the armed attack at Chisinau International Airport.
The working group is to draw up a set of decisions, recommendations and proposals aimed at ensuring the smooth running of airport activities and an adequate level of security and public order at the airport.
Following yesterday's attack, a border policeman and an airport security employee were killed in a gunfight.
The assailant, a Tajik national, was injured and is in serious condition in hospital. He faces life imprisonment.
Moldova's top leadership expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and gave assurances that it will increase public order security measures so that similar incidents do not occur again.
