The government will allocate 1 million lei each to the families of the two officers killed at Chisinau Airport
The authorities will grant 1 million lei each to the families of the victims of the bloody attack at the Chisinau Airport. The money will be allocated from the Government's reserve fund. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean on his Facebook page.
"As a sign of deep compassion and solidarity with the families, relatives and close friends of Serghei Muntean and Igor Ciofu, victims of the tragic incident that happened at the Chisinau International Airport on June 30, 2023, tomorrow the state flags will be lowered to half-mast" , said Dorin Recean.
Igor Ciofu, a retired SPPS officer, left behind three children. After his death, a fundraising campaign for his family was launched on social media. To date, more than 3600 euros have been collected.
Igor Ciofu was buried today in his native village of Nimoreni, Ialoveni district, and Serghei Muntean, also killed by the attacker's bullets, will be buried on Tuesday, in his native village of Volintiri, Ștefan Vodă district.
We remind that on Tuesday, a day of national mourning was decreed. The Head of State also signed a decree posthumously awarding the "Military Merit" Medal to Igor Ciofu, reserve lieutenant-colonel of the State Protection and Guard Service, and to Serghei Munteanu, deputy chief agent of Border Police of the Ministry of Interior.
We remind you that on Friday, June 30, the border policeman, Serghei Muntean, and the security guard, Igor Ciofu, were shot in cold blood by a citizen of Tajikistan, who was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova. The attacker was injured by law enforcement officers, is in hospital in serious condition and faces life imprisonment.
The attacker, Rustan Ashurov, a former policeman from Tajikistan, was injured and is currently in a serious condition in hospital in Chisinau. An arrest warrant was issued in his name for 30 days. Rustam Ashurov will not be extradited. If he survives, he will be tried and serve his sentence in the Republic of Moldova.
