Igor Ciofu’s funerals with military honors held today in his native village
Lieutenant-colonel in reserve of the Protection and State Guard Service, Igor Ciofu, who died at the Chisinau International Airport, was buried, on Monday, in his native village Nimoreni, Ialoveni district.
Among those present at the funeral ceremony was the head of the IGP Viorel Cernăuțeanu, as well as several former and current colleagues of Igor Ciofu, including from the SPPS.
Igor Ciofu has been active in the Airport security service since 2022, being a retired officer from the Protection and State Guard Service.
On Tuesday, July 4, the border policeman, Serghei Muntean, will be buried.
We remind that on Tuesday, a day of national mourning was decreed. The Head of State also signed a decree posthumously awarding the "Military Merit" Medal to Igor Ciofu, reserve lieutenant-colonel of the State Protection and Guard Service, and to Serghei Munteanu, deputy chief agent of Border Police of the Ministry of Interior.
We remind you that on Friday, June 30, the border policeman, Serghei Muntean, and the security guard, Igor Ciofu, were shot in cold blood by a citizen of Tajikistan, who was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova. The attacker was injured by law enforcement officers, is in hospital in serious condition and faces life imprisonment.
The attacker, Rustan Ashurov, a former policeman from Tajikistan, was injured and is currently in a serious condition in hospital in Chisinau. An arrest warrant was issued in his name for 30 days. Rustam Ashurov will not be extradited. If he survives, he will be tried and serve his sentence in the Republic of Moldova.
