Russia accuses Ukraine of launching a drone attack on Moscow. How Kiev responds

Russia accuses Ukraine of launching a drone attack on Moscow. As a result, flights at Vnukovo International Airport have been diverted. According to the Russian defence ministry, all the drones were shot down and no casualties or damage were reported, reports the BBC.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.

Restrictions at Vnukovo airport, one of Moscow's three international airports, have now been lifted. Flights from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt were among those affected.

According to the defence ministry, four of the drones flying in the Moscow region were shot down by air defence systems. A fifth was intercepted electronically before crashing.

The Telegram Shot channel reported that one of the drones, or fragments of it, crashed into a building in the village of Krivosheino, which subsequently caught fire.

Russian state media said another drone crashed in Kubinka, which is about 36 km from Vnukovo airport, which is in the southwest of the city.

This is not the first drone strike to target Moscow. In May, the Russian defence ministry said at least eight drones caused minor damage.

It was the first time the city has been targeted by multiple drones since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Kiev has denied responsibility for the attack.
