Kiev and Moscow accuse each other of preparing an attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant
Ukraine accused Moscow on Tuesday of preparing a "provocation" at the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, while Russia in turn claims Kiev is preparing an "attack" on the plant, AFP and Agerpres report.
The Ukrainian military warned of "possible preparations for a provocation on the territory of the Zaporozhye power plant in the near future". It claims that "objects similar to explosive devices have been placed on the outer roof of reactors 3 and 4".
"Their denouncement should not affect the generators, but give the impression of bombings from the Ukrainian side," the military continues, warning that Moscow "will make disinformation on this subject."
In Moscow, an adviser to Russian nuclear giant Rosatom, Renat Karchaa, accused Kiev of preparing an "attack" on the plant.
"Today I received information that I am authorized to disclose. On July 5, during the night, in complete darkness, the Ukrainian army will try to attack the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant," Renat Karchaa told Russian TV.
He gave assurances that Kiev plans to use "long-range precision weapons" and drones.
Under Russian military control since 4 March 2022, Europe's largest power plant has been targeted by attacks and disconnected from the electricity grid several times. According to Kiev, Russia has placed troops and weapons on the plant's premises.
