The President of the European Parliament pays a visit to Romania

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, is paying an official two-day visit to Romania. The Head of the European Legislature will meet with President Klaus Iohannis, with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, but also with the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, later she will give a speech in Parliament, writes the Romanian press.

Government members, Romanian MEPs, heads of diplomatic missions and international representations accredited in Bucharest are also invited to the joint meeting.

The head of the European Parliament is one of Romania's most important supporters for Schengen entry. After Austria's negative vote, she said she was extremely disappointed and called on the European Council to act and ensure a compromise was found. Roberta Metsola undertook, on behalf of the European Parliament, to support Romania's immediate accession to the free movement area, Schengen.
